West Orange Celebrates Holiday with Tree Lighting, Santa Visit

West Orange celebrated the holiday season Friday night with the township's tree lighting ceremony — and a visit from Santa Claus.

Hundreds of residents poured onto the township municipal building's front lawn and into council chambers for the annual event.

Festivities continue Saturday with breakfast with Santa at 9 a.m. in Connor Hall at Our Lady of Lourdes Church; "Reading in a Winter Wonderland" at West Orange Public Library at 11 a.m.; holiday craft making at the Valley Community Police Center from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.; pictures with Santa at Supreme Bakery from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.; West Orange trolley tours from noon to 4 p.m. (every half hour) from the Community House; and "Old Fashioned Dickens Carolers" between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. on the corner of Kingsley Street and Valley Road.
