West Orange Council Honors Female Employees, St. Patrick’s Marshals

WEST ORANGE, NJ — The West Orange town council paid tribute to several female employees as a nod to Women’s History Month during their meeting on Tuesday.

Susan McCartney – the town’s first female mayor – was on hand to congratulate the municipal workers, who were given roses as a token of gratitude.

A proclamation gives at the meeting reads in part:

“The role of American women in history has been consistently overlooked and undervalued, in the literature, teaching and study of American history, and whereas [Mayor Susan McCartney and the Township Council] therefore wish to recognize the invaluable contributions the women working for the township have made, and acknowledge their dedication and commitment to the township.”

McCartney and the council also took a moment to recognize this year’s West Orange St. Patrick Day Parade honorees during Tuesday’s meeting.

The parade will take place on Sunday, March 12, with a step-off scheduled for 12:15 p.m. in front of West Orange Town Hall. Read More: West Orange St. Patrick's Day Parade Will Return For 2023

This year’s grand marshal is Mike McCormick, who was not able to attend the council meeting. However, the 2023 honorees were well-represented at the meeting by deputy marshals Megan McNerney Brill, Rich Hughes and Michele McCue Shaffer.
