West Orange Council Passes Town Budget With No Tax Increase

West Orange's latest municipal budget won't include a tax increase for local homeowners, according to officials.

WEST ORANGE, NJ — West Orange’s latest municipal budget won’t include a tax increase for local homeowners, according to officials.

The West Orange Town Council unanimously approved the 2021 municipal budget during their Sept. 14 meeting. See the minutes here.

The $93.78 million budget will include a tax rate of 1.069 percent, and an anticipated surplus of $4.27 million. In 2020, the municipal budget included a tax increase of 1.76 percent, Essex News Daily reported.

A town’s municipal budget makes up one part of a local homeowner’s property taxes; other components include school and county levies. According to the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, here was the breakdown in West Orange for 2020:

  • Municipal levy – 26%
  • County levy – 13.3%
  • School levy – 60.7%
