West Orange Digs Out From Blizzard: Local Winter Snowstorm Updates

Schools will be closed for a second straight day in West Orange. Here's what else to know heading into Tuesday.

WEST ORANGE, NJ — The icy grasp of winter isn’t done with West Orange yet.

West Orange was among the New Jersey towns that were walloped with more than a foot of snow on Sunday and Monday. The blizzard wreaked havoc on power lines and roadways across the state – and even sparked reports of a rare weather phenomenon known as “thundersnow.”

Here are some updates to know in West Orange for Tuesday:

SCHOOLS

After a day off on Monday, the West Orange Public School District will be closed again on Tuesday, Feb. 24.

According to a message from the superintendent's office: "The snow storm has greatly impacted road conditions, and because of the efforts needed to clear sidewalks, access to crosswalks, kiss and go lanes, parking lots, and the disbursement of the snow piles, the West Orange Public Schools will be closed Tuesday, February 24, 2026. This decision is made with safety in mind, especially for our school community. We appreciate our Township and DPW for their partnership in the cleanup. Thank you and stay safe."

TRASH AND RECYCLING

Garbage and recycling collection will be suspended again on Tuesday, Feb. 24. Residents should not place their garbage or recycling bins at the curb.

PARKING

The town's Temporary Parking Prohibition for Snow Plowing and Removal Ordinance will be in effect during the storm. No vehicles may be parked on specified streets for the duration of the storm and snow removal operations. A list of affected streets can be seen online here.

JITNEY

The morning and evening jitney services will be canceled on Tuesday, Feb. 24.
