West Orange Drummer Will Join Trio At NJ Jazz Society Social

Drummer Greg Bufford of West Orange will be part of a jazz trio that leads an "old fashioned jam session/open mic" on Feb. 18.

WEST ORANGE, NJ — Drummer Greg Bufford of West Orange will be part of a jazz trio that leads an “old fashioned jam session/open mic” at the New Jersey Jazz Society’s monthly social on Sunday, Feb. 18 at Shanghai Jazz in Madison.

According to a news release, Bufford - a resident of West Orange - studied under master drummer Philly Joe Jones. “All About Jazz’s” David Orthmann described him as “an exceptional musician with a personal sound, conception and feeling for jazz.”

Bufford will be playing alongside keyboardist David Braham, who was mentored by jazz organ legends Jack McDuff and Richard “Groove” Holmes, and bassist Belden Bullock, who studied at the Berklee College of Music and has played with jazz luminaries that include pianist Ahmad Jamal and drummer Roy Haynes.

All jazz musicians and vocalists are invited to sit in during the jam session, which will run from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Admission to the socials is free for New Jersey Jazz Society members and $10 for non-members. There is also a $10 food/beverage minimum.
