West Orange Firefighter Is Running For Essex County Commissioner

WEST ORANGE, NJ — A firefighter who also serves as West Orange Democratic chair has thrown his hat into the ring for an at-large seat on the Essex County Board of Commissioners.

Abdur Yasin launched his campaign Tuesday, posting the following announcement on social media:

“I'm proud to announce that I am running for Essex County commissioner at-large. For nearly 24 years, I've served our community as a West Orange firefighter, three terms as West Orange Democratic chair, and over a decade as an educator. Service has always been at the center of my life – and I'm ready to continue that work at the county level.”

“Let's keep Essex County strong – together,” Yasin said.

Yasin is planning to hold a campaign kickoff rally from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 7 at Llewellyn Parq Bar & Grill in West Orange, 10 Harrison Avenue. RSVPs can be made online here.

Four at-large seats on the Essex County Commissioner Board are up for election this year.

Two at-large board members with a combined 48 years of service recently announced they will not be running for re-election: Patricia Sebold and Brendan Gill.
