West Orange Firefighters Aid Montclair Peers During House Fire

West Orange and Montclair firefighters extinguished a blaze at a local home.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Montclair firefighters extinguished a blaze at an Elmwood Avenue home on Monday, getting some key assistance from their peers in West Orange and backup coverage from the Clifton, Bloomfield and East Orange fire departments.

According to the Montclair Fire Department, firefighters responded to an Elmwood Avenue home on Monday afternoon, finding smoke and flames coming from the second floor of the home.

Working with assistance at the scene from the West Orange Fire Department, firefighters managed to get the blaze under control in less than an hour. Meanwhile, the Clifton, Bloomfield and East Orange fire departments provided coverage for Montclair, authorities said.

All residents had evacuated the building before fire crews arrived; nobody suffered injuries during the incident, authorities stated.

The fire caused extensive heat, smoke and water damage to the second and third floors and water damage to the first floor and basement of the home. The cause of the blaze is under investigation, the Montclair Fire Department stated.
