West Orange High School Freshman Daniel Gutierrez Invited to W!SE Financial Literacy Certification Scholars’ Reception

West Orange High School freshman, Daniel Gutierrez was invited to attend the W!SE (Working in Support of Education) Financial Literacy Certification Scholars’ Reception.  The reception was held at the Museum of American Finance in New York City’s Financial District on June 9, 2014.  The reception celebrates students who earned a score of 95% or better on the 2013-2014 National Standardized Financial Literacy Certification Test.  The W!SE organization works with the New York Financial Literacy Coalition offering high school students in the tri-state area the opportunity to become financially literate.

In addition to Daniel, West Orange High School students Maria Thorne, Brian Mirenda and Logan Fleisher were also eligible to attend the reception. Approximately 392 students participated in the program throughout the year, and many received certificates from W!SE recognizing their proficiency in financial literacy.  Effective with the class of 2014, 2.5 credits in financial literacy is a graduation requirement.  Several Personal Finance classes in the Business Education Department participated in the program taught by Mr. Demon Cowins, Mrs. Cheryl Dunlap, Mrs. Maria Frangos, Mrs. Natasha Gialanella, Ms. Lori Graham and Ms. Anne Hanson.
