WEST ORANGE HIGH SCHOOL JUBILEE CHOIR AND BOYS STEP TEAM PERFORM AT METRO WEST JCC IN WEST ORANGE FOR BLACK HISTORY MONTH

Friday, February 21, 2014 West Orange, NJ; The West Orange High School Jubilee Choir and Boys Step Team performed yesterday, Thursday February 20th, at the Metro West JCC in West Orange in celebration of Black History Month. West Orange High School was invited to the JCC to foster unity and cultural understanding between students, and the audience of mostly senior citizens, special needs adults and youngsters.

Directed by William Farley, The WOHS Jubilee Choir performed a range of musical numbers including spirituals, hymns and classical numbers including Aint-a -That Good News, Elijah Rock, Lacrymosa by Mozart, I Believe and Joy.

The national championship WOHS Boys Step Team performed routines sharing the relatively new form of dance based on Greek Fraternity step teams that is growing across the nation.

Director William Farley encouraged the audience to clap, stomp and sing along, “…like we do in our churches,” he said. The show began with a heartfelt rendition of the African National Anthem sung by Devin Close.

Mr. Farley also thanked Jared Blackwell for conducting, and musicians Ralph Desmaris (drums), David Guy (bass), Marc Louis (saxophone). The JCC Metro West event was coordinated by Sharon Gordon MSW, Director, Center for Adult Services. . A dessert reception for the students and seniors was held after the performance
