West Orange Honors Boys Soccer Team For Historic Season

Family and friends gathered at town hall to celebrate the Mountaineers' historic, record-breaking season.

Mayor Susan McCartney and the West Orange Township Council welcomed the West Orange High School Boys Soccer team to the council chambers during the conference agenda of the January 20 council meeting. Family and friends gathered to help celebrate the Mountaineers’ historic, record-breaking 2025 season.

The team captured the NJSIAA Group 4 State Championship for the first time since 2013, defeating North Brunswick 5–0 in the final. The Soccer Coaches Association of New Jersey ranked WOHS the #1 public school team in the state, while United Soccer Coaches placed the Mountaineers #8 nationally.

Team and individual honors came with accolades from NJ.com, TopDrawerSoccer.com, the Suburban Essex Conference, and Jersey Sports Zone. Special recognition was given to Head Coach Doug Nevins, named the 2025 United Soccer Coaches Large School and Regional Coach of the Year. Senior Captain Marcus Jackson earned United Soccer Coaches All-Region, All-American, and National Player of the Year honors. Fellow Senior Captain Carl Hall led New Jersey and all Group 4 schools and both the Super Essex Conference, and all seniors statewide with 26 assists.

The mayor and township council proudly commend the 2025 boys soccer team for their dedication, teamwork, and perseverance whose achievements have energized the school and community and delivered a truly remarkable season.
