West Orange House Fire Causes Partial Roof Collapse (VIDEO)

West Orange firefighters battled the blaze with help from Orange, East Orange, South Orange, Montclair, Belleville, Bloomfield and Irvington

WEST ORANGE, NJ — A vehicle fire spread to a West Orange home on Galloway Court, sending flames and smoke shooting out the attic of the building on Sunday afternoon, authorities said.

The West Orange Fire Department responded to the scene around 1 p.m. after receiving a report about a vehicle fire. On arrival, firefighters found that the blaze had spread to the 2.5-story, wood-frame home.

The house was unoccupied at the time of the fire, a township spokesperson said.

Using a “defensive strategy,” West Orange firefighters put out the blaze with assistance and coverage help from their peers in Orange, East Orange, South Orange, Montclair, Belleville, Bloomfield and Irvington.

A partial collapse of the roof took place while battling the fire. In addition, a firefighter suffered a non-life-threatening injury and was transported to Saint Barnabas Medical Center for evaluation and treatment, authorities said.

Officials are investigating the cause of the fire, authorities said Monday.
