West Orange HS Girls Tennis: 'Most Talented Team In My Time As Coach'

"This is by far the most talented team we have had in my time as the head coach," West Orange High School's Jeff Mazurek said.

WEST ORANGE, NJ — It says something about a team's character when your coach says they're the "most talented" he's ever had.

On Sept. 23, the West Orange High School Girls Tennis Team defeated Nutley 5-0 and Montclair 3-2 to capture the 2017 Essex County Tournament Consolation title after rebounding from a 4-1 loss to SEC American Division mainstay West Essex the previous week.

“The girls worked extremely hard through the entire summer and have made so much progress in the past few months,” Head Coach Jeff Mazurek said. “This is by far the most talented team we have had in my time as the head coach.”

Assistant Coach Mike Marini said that the entire team participated in an intensive training program.

“We held a five-week, 15-session camp that required the girls to complete conditioning intervals like 300-yard shuttles and 220-yard sprints,” said Marini, who is also a personal trainer. “All 27 team members passed.”
