West Orange Jitney Bus Change Begins Monday; Extra AM Run Added To Schedule

WEST ORANGE, NJ — West Orange is making some tweaks to a local jitney bus route after receiving feedback from commuters.

The township recently released the following advisory about changes to the Route 1 jitney schedule, which take effect on Monday, Aug. 3:

“Please be advised that, in response to the feedback and requests received from our commuter jitney riders, Mayor Susan McCartney directed the West Orange Transportation Division management team to develop and implement a practical solution to address the concerns raised by riders on Route 1.

“Effective Monday, Aug. 3, 2026, the Route 1 schedule will be modified by adding an additional morning run to accommodate commuters wishing to catch the 6:24 a.m. train from the South Orange Train Station. In addition, minor adjustments will be made to the pickup times established under the March 2026 schedule for riders boarding the 6:44 a.m. train.

“We are confident that these changes will reduce wait times for passengers traveling on later trains while continuing to provide reliable service for those needing the earlier departure. We believe this solution addresses the concerns and requests that have been raised over the past week.

“Mayor Susan McCartney extends her sincere appreciation to our riders for sharing their feedback and for their patience while the Transportation Division evaluated and implemented these improvements. Please keep these lines of communication open for continued feedback.

“The West Orange Transportation Division will continue to monitor Route 1, as well as all other commuter Jitney routes, to identify opportunities for increased efficiency and enhanced service. Schedule adjustments will be made as needed to ensure we continue providing the highest level of service possible to our residents.

“The revised Route 1 Jitney schedule will be posted on the township website at www.westorange.org/jitney and on the Passio GO! app.
