The West Orange resident practiced medicine in Essex County for more than 50 years and was "Irishman of the Year" in 1985.

West Orange resident Frank Brady, Sr. passed away on Oct. 31.

He was 98-years-old.

“Dr. Frank J. Brady, Sr., 98, of West Orange, died at home on October 31, 2015.

“Dr. Brady was born in Newark and lived in Vailsburg until moving to West Orange in 1974.

“In 1935, he graduated from St. Benedict’s Prep High School in Newark. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Seton Hall University in 1939. In Philadelphia, he went on to attend Hahnemann Medical School, where he obtained his medical degree in 1944.

“Dr. Brady was a General Practitioner. His practice encompassed Surgery, Obstetrics, Anesthesia, and Internal Medicine. He directed the United Hospital Emergency room, for many years. For over 50 years, he had his own medical practice in the Vailsburg section of Newark on Sanford Avenue directly across from Sacred Heart Church. Throughout his career, he had privileges at Presbyterian - United Hospitals, St. Mary’s Hospital, St. Michael’s Hospital, and Orange Memorial Hospital.

“He was a member of the Physician’s Club of Essex County. The Friends of Brian Boru awarded him “Irishman of the Year” in 1985. He was a longtime parishioner of Sacred Heart Vailsburg and St. Joseph’s Church in West Orange. In his younger years, Dr. Brady was an avid golfer and was a member of the Maplewood Country Club.

“He is pre-deceased by his beloved wife, Grace Elizabeth Brady and all his siblings.

“Surviving are his beloved children, Frank J. Jr., DPM (Tess), Patrice Kirkinis (Rick), John A., M.D. (Judy), Susan Brady, F.N.P., Michael A., M.D. (Jane), and Maureen Brady and cherished grandchildren, Christopher Kirkinis, Katie Kirkinis, Theodore Kirkinis, Sean Brady, Kimberly Brady, John Brady, Grace Brady, Christian Brady and Elizabeth Brady.

“In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Barnabas Hospice, 95 Old Short Hills Rd., West Orange, N.J. 07052, would be appreciated.”
