WEST ORANGE, NJ — The ribbon has been cut on West Orange’s first dog park.

West Orange town officials held an opening ceremony at the dog park on Sunday. It is located on Executive Drive next to the Stonehill Apartments behind the West Orange ShopRite.

According to the township, the dog park complex features a small dog area that is exclusively for dogs under 25 pounds, as well as a larger area for canines of all sizes. It is enclosed by secure fencing that provides a safe environment where dogs can roam off-leash. Two specially designed water stations will also help keep the dogs hydrated while enjoying open-air exercise.

The park will be open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. The fee for residents is $10 per year, and $20 for non-residents.

The West Orange Dog Park is currently offering sponsorship contribution opportunities, township officials noted. The funds will help to secure equipment and future amenities to “maintain the highest standards of quality and safety.” For more information, contact Denise Urso at the West Orange Health Department at healthdept@westorange.org or (973) 325-4121.

The dog park was a bargaining chip in the Executive Drive redevelopment agreement that crossed the finish line a few years ago. It is located near the town’s recently opened public library and a new luxury apartment complex.
