West Orange Police Make Arrest in Gas Station Shooting
Armed Robbery Captured on Surveillance Video Leads to Arrest 

June 24, 2014 – West Orange, NJ – West Orange police have arrested and charged the suspect wanted in connection with last week’s armed robbery that resulted in the shooting of a man at a local gas station. Surveillance cameras captured the incident on video, which helped authorities identify and apprehend the suspect.

The incident occurred on June 16 at the Delta gas station on Park Avenue in West Orange. Surveillance footage taken by a gas station video camera observed a man wearing a ski mask approaching the attendant at the pay station. When the attendant attempted to resist the attacker, he was shot and the assailant fled the scene.

A detailed investigation found that Kashif Harris, 21, of Newark, who had been arrested in Irvington two days later on an unrelated armed robbery charge, was also the suspect wanted in the Delta gas station incident.

Harris is charged with robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon and aggravated assault. He remains in Essex County jail with bail set at $400 thousand.

“Through the expert detective work of our officers, we were able to track down this criminal quickly,” said West Orange Police Chief James P. Abbott.

“I am very proud of the job our police officers are doing. Solving this case with speed and skill takes this criminal off the streets to prevent him from causing more harm to the public,” Mayor Robert D. Parisi said.
