See How West Orange Ranked On List Of School Funding ‘Equality’ In NJ

WEST ORANGE, NJ — West Orange is one of hundreds of New Jersey towns with school systems that were ranked on a new list of “2022's Most And Least Equitable School Districts.”

On Tuesday, financial information website WalletHub released its latest list for the Garden State, which attempts to analyze where school funding is “distributed most fairly.” See the full list and read about its methodology here.

To reach their conclusions, WalletHub researchers scored the equitability of each school district in New Jersey based on two metrics: average household income, and expenditures for public elementary and secondary schools per pupil.

How did West Orange do? The study ranked the West Orange Public School District 182nd out of 538 districts in the state based on the following numbers:

• Expenditures for public elementary and secondary schools per pupil - $24,852
• Income by school district - $103,956

As a state, New Jersey landed in the bottom half of the national study, rating 43rd out of 49 ranked U.S. states (the study left out Hawaii due to “data limitations.”) According to researchers, “Red states” with heavy concentrations of Republican voters have the “most equitable school districts” and scored significantly better on the study.
