West Orange Resident Dies In Manhattan Car Crash: Authorities

A 24-year-old West Orange resident died in a car crash in New York City, officials said.

WEST ORANGE, NJ — A West Orange resident died in a car crash on Monday in New York City, authorities said.

City officials identified the deceased New Jersey resident as D'Andre Hull, 24, of West Orange. The New York City Department of Transportation and the New York City Police Department released a statement about the crash:

“On Monday, Nov. 28 at approximately 1:46 a.m., police responded to a 911 call about a motor vehicle collision on Canal Street at Bowery, within the confines of the 5th Precinct. Upon their arrival, the officers observed a 24-year-old male, unconscious and unresponsive, inside a grey 2017 Nissan Altima. EMS responded to the location and transported the male to NYC Health & Hospitals//Bellevue, where he was pronounced deceased. Further investigation by the NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad determined that the male operator of the vehicle was traveling from the Manhattan Bridge onto Canal Street westbound, when he failed to properly navigate the roadway and struck a utility pole at the Bowery, before the vehicle rotated and came to a rest at the curbline at the location. There were no other injuries.”

An investigation continues, authorities said Tuesday morning.
