There was more to the story, of course, because over the years Moore has also become a beloved principal, mentor, community-involved activist, coach, and friend to those that know them.

Former Superintendent Jerry Tarnoff emceed the event, which featured notable guest speakers including Interim Superintendent Dr. Lauren Schoen, Moore’s mentor, Washington Elementary Principal Marie DeMaio, WOEA President Mark Maniscalco, Mayor Robert Parisi, who proclaimed June 9 in West Orange as “Hayden Moore Day,” and WOHS Asst. Principal Annette Towson.

Moore himself was touched and grateful for the outpouring of love and called his parents to the podium to receive his award with him, eliciting tears from the audience.

Long-time Scholarship Trustee and retired administrative staff member Gerri Krimmel was also recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award for her years of dedication and service to the school district and community.

“I am very blessed,” said Moore. “Thank you to all of you for being here, for my family, friends, and co-workers.”

Net proceeds from the event will benefit the WOSF Principal’s Scholarship Award.
