WEST ORANGE, NJ — Teachers and other staff members in the West Orange Public School District returned for a new year of classes on Thursday, with the first day for students set for Tuesday, Sept. 6 – right after the Labor Day holiday.

District administrators gave the returning educators – all 1,300 of them – a big round of applause on social media. They wrote:

“In order to provide the most outstanding, well-rounded education experience for students, one must first acknowledge the need to support and honor our educators and staff by ensuring their “buckets are filled” giving them strength, will power, and encouragement to whole-heartedly support & love their students, each other, and themselves. Today the West Orange Public Schools, NJ welcomed back our staff – every teacher, support staff, custodian, food service worker, transportation staff, principal and administrator – over 1,300 employees ALL TOGETHER at an ‘INFINITE POSSIBILITIES’ celebration/pep-rally that featured our award-winning, nationally recognized West Orange High School Marching Band, Boys Step Team and Mountaineer Cheerleaders as well as a special keynote address by the Acting Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Education, Angelica Allen-McMillan, Ed.D.”
