Soccer Player Gets Full-Ride to St. John's

A senior received a full athletic scholarship to attend St. John's University in the fall. Jelani Williams, a soccer player, signed a letter of intent committing to the university last week.

Williams is the seventh West Orange High School soccer player in the last 10 years to receive a D1 athletic scholarship. As a forward for the high school Boys Varsity Soccer team, Williams was named an All-State Player.

"Jelani is an incredible player. He will go down as one of the most talented players in our high school history. If he works hard, he will have a great college career," said Doug Nevins, head coach of the Boys Varsity Soccer. Nevins himself played for Villanova University and was named All Big East Player of the Year in 1995, as well as State Coach of the Year in 2006.

St. John’s University is part of the Big East Conference.
