West Orange High School Naviance/Family Connection Training and Fall Guidance Programs Announced

The West Orange High School Guidance Department announces that the annual Naviance/Family Connections Parent Training Night will be held on Thursday, September 24th, at 6:30PM in the high school Library Media Center, 51 Conforti Avenue.
Parents and guardians will learn about topics including Personalized Learning Plans, Career Exploration and Course Planning, and College Search and Admission. Whether your student desires to go on to post secondary educational opportunities such as college, the military, career training programs or work, Naviance/Family Connection is an important platform to use to stay up to date on activities, and information from West Orange High School and the Guidance Department.
NAVIANCE/FAMILY CONNECTION is a college and career readiness platform with helpful information, tutorials, research, and planning tools for students and parents. The program has a robust newsletter and bulletin feature, and is a primary platform for information to students and families from the guidance department, including Back Pack News, news from your student’s specific academic school, flyers on activities and programs from many departments.

“We encourage students and parents to come out and learn more about Naviance.
Through the Naviance framework, the student is able to personalize a pathway beginning in grade 9 that includes their post-secondary goals, what courses they need to complete, what is financially possible, and what opportunities are ahead for them,” says Cheryl Butler, Director of Student Personnel Services/Guidance. “The ultimate goal is to empower our students for success beyond the West Orange Public Schools. With Naviance we can collect, monitor and analyze the deep data needed to tailor curriculum to individual student strengths, challenges and goals. This allows students to map realistic paths toward academic, personal and career success. It is particularly helpful for students who are the first generation of college-goers in their family.”
