Zufall Health’s Family Fun Day Serves Nearly 600 People
Event Response Shows the Growing Need for Affordable Health Care in Essex County
Zufall Health celebrated National Health Center Week with a family-friendly, indoor-outdoor health and resource fair on Saturday, August 3. Held at Zufall’s new West Orange facility that opened earlier this year, the event drew nearly 600 attendees!
Guests enjoyed health services and activities, including backpacks with school supplies, nutrition education, vision screenings, vaccinations, HIV testing, a healthy cooking demonstration, oral health education, a barbeque lunch, a presentation on brain changes in aging, voting education, crafts, water activities, and health insurance enrollment assistance.
National Health Center Week celebrates the country's 1,400 community health centers (CHCs) like Zufall Health. In 2023, CHCs served 32.5 million patients, about 1 in 10 Americans. The strong turnout at our Family Fun Day underscores the ongoing need for affordable health care in our communities. Zufall Health ensures high-quality, affordable, and culturally responsive health services regardless of circumstances or ability to pay.

Nationally, 90 percent of CHC patients are low-income, 19 percent are uninsured, and many are from vulnerable populations, including people experiencing homelessness, agricultural workers, seniors, public housing residents, and military veterans. CHCs save the U.S. health care system an estimated $24 billion annually and generate about $85 million in local economic activity.
