WESTWOOD, NJ — Westwood is producing a Broadway-style night in the park, and residents can grab the microphone.
Broadway Karaoke Night runs from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. next Saturday on the Veterans' Memorial Park Bandstand lawn, 49 Park Ave. The free, family-friendly event welcomes all abilities to "belt out their favorite show tunes," with on-site registration at 5:30 p.m.
Each performer will be entered to win Bergen County Players tickets. Guests may bring blankets, chairs and picnic baskets. Guests may also want to bring an extra layer in case the evening air turns cool.
The evening concludes with a first look at BCP's The Producers, opening in September at the Little Firehouse Theatre in Oradell. Based on Mel Brooks' 1967 film, the musical follows a washed-up producer and timid accountant whose plan to profit from failure backfires when it becomes a hit.
The 12-time Tony Award winner marks the 25th anniversary of its Broadway debut amid a worldwide celebration of Brooks' 100th birthday.
Performances will be held at 298 Kinderkamack Road. Tickets are available at bcplayers.org or 201-261-4200. Some season proceeds will benefit The Food Brigade, which provides groceries and meals to local families facing food insecurity.
There is no rain date, so if the weather threatens to put on a show of its own, check the borough's notices page for updates.
