WESTWOOD, NJ — A large sinkhole has forced the immediate closure of a section of Harrington Avenue near Berkeley School, prompting police to warn drivers and parents.
According to a Westwood Police Department alert issued Thursday, Harrington Avenue is closed between Berkeley Avenue and Sand Road due to a large sinkhole in the middle of the roadway.
Westwood police officers are on scene and will help direct parents during student drop-off and pickup at Berkeley School.
Residents are encouraged to use alternate routes while crews work to address the situation.
"On behalf of Chief Michael R. Pontillo and the members of the Westwood Police Department, we thank you for your understanding as we try to rectify this situation," the police department said.
Police did not provide an estimated reopening time in the announcement.
