Bergen Cop Stole Meds From Prescription Drop Box: Prosecutor

An Oradell police officer is charged with taking prescription medication out of an "Operation Take Back" drop box, authorities said.

ORADELL, NJ — An Oradell police officer was charged with theft and controlled substance possession after he stole medication from a locked drop box designated for residents to dispose of unused prescriptions, the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office said.

Jeffrey Peters, 41, of Hawthorne, was arrested Monday after an investigation found he unlawfully accessed an "Operation Take Back" drop box located in the lobby of the Oradell Police Department, removing prescription medication on "several occasions," authorities said.

He has been suspended from his duties as a police officer, the Prosecutor's Office said.

Peters is charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and theft. He is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 10.
