Charitable Batman Actor Killed In Crash Was Originally From Bergen County, Reports Say

Leonard Robinson, 51, was killed on a Maryland highway while he was checking his Batmobile's engine Sunday night.

A man known for visiting hospitalized children dressed as Batman who died in a car crash was from Bergen County, according to online reports.

Leonard Robinson, 51, was killed when he and his version of the Batmobile were struck by a Toyota Camry on the side of Interstate 70 in Washington County, Md. Sunday night. Police said he was checking his engine. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Robinson, of Owings Mills, Md. is originally from Bergen County, The Associated Press reported. NJ.com reported that he was originally from Englewood Cliffs and his sons’ Facebook pages note that they are from Harrington Park.

Robinson spent a lot of time and money, dressed up as the Caped Crusader to cheer up sick children or promote charitable causes, the Baltimore Sun reported.

“He would come into the hospital and transform the place,” Laurie Strongin, founder of the Hope for Henry Foundation told the Baltimore Sun. “When he was there, the kids would forget they were sick; they would forget they were in the hospital. He brought so much joy and happiness into their lives.”

Police dashcam video of Robinson being pulled over by Montgomery County police went viral in 2012, his website states. He took pictures with the officers who stopped him.
