Josephine Swift Art Exhibit

The Township of Washington Library is presenting an art exhibit of Josephine Manolio Swift in the program room for the month of March. A resident of Westwood, Ms. Swift's education includes Bergen Community College, Montclair State College and the Art Student League.

Ms. Swift has been featured at the Cork Gallery at Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center Plaza and on the ABC television show, Good Morning America. Her past exhibits include the Salute to Women at the NJ Art Center, the Paramus Library, the Hawthorne Library, the Art Center of Northern NJ, JCC on the Palisades, The Manhattan Athletic Club, Bergen Museum of Art and Science, the permanent collection at Behnke Historical Museum, Bergen Community College, Westwood Public Library and numerous other organizations.

Her current exhibit at the Township of Washington Library is titled "Art for the Love of It." Ms. Swift says "From the time I was a child, my art had reflected my day to day experiences, a visual diary of sorts. Now it also serves to ask questions, at times with joy or laughter and at times with quiet force. My ideas have many different sources but are always tied to emotional cords. At times, ideas are triggered by something I see that shouts to be painted. Other times, a putting together of fragments from my past, my travels or my whimsies and dreams. My work is a personal reality woven with threads from my imagination."
