Flu Vaccines Available

The NorthWest Bergen Regional Health Commission is holding flu clinics in Hillsdale, Westwood and Washington Township.

Local residents looking to protect themselves from the flu this year can attend one of several upcoming local flu clinics being held by the NorthWest Bergen Regional Health Commission.

In Hillsdale, adults will be able to get vaccines September 18 from 4 to 7 p.m. at . The vaccine is free for anyone with Medicare Part B and $25 for everyone else. Children will also be able to get free Thimerosal flu vaccines from 5 to 7 p.m.

Westwood will hold two flu clinics. The first will take place October 2 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the . The vaccine will once again be free for anyone with Medicare Part B and $25 for everyone else. Children will be able to get the free Thimerosal flu vaccines.

The second Westwood clinic, October 16 from 1 to 3 p.m. at , will only be for adults.

There will also be an adult-only clinic at in Washington Township from 7 to 9 a.m. October 16.

As many as 20 percent of Americans catch the flu each year, according to Dawn Snyder, Health Educator for the NorthWest Bergen Regional Health Commission. 36,000 people die from the flu each year.

The Commission serves as the health department for Midland Park, Upper Saddle River and Waldwick. They contract with several other area towns for services like the annual flu clinics, including Westwood and Hillsdale.
