Ex-Westwood Man Charged With Child Porn Possession

Breaking:Brian J. Gallagher, 58, allegedly used the internet to try and distribute files of nude or sexually explicit prepubescent children.

WESTWOOD, NJ — A former borough resident who tried to distribute files of child pornography on the internet was arrested, authorities announced.

Brian J. Gallagher, 58, of Phillipsburg, formerly of Westwood, was arrested Thursday after members of the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Cyber Crimes Unit executed a search warrant at his home during an internet child pornography investigation, said acting Bergen County Prosecutor Dennis Calo.

The investigation revealed that Gallagher used the internet to view, possess and attempt to distribute digital files depicting nude or sexually explicit prepubescent children, Calo said.

Gallagher, who is married and works as a taxi driver, was arrested in Phillipsburg and charged with second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, attempted distribution of child pornography and third-degree possession of child pornography, Calo said.

Gallagher is scheduled for a first court appearance March 7 at 8:30 a.m. in Bergen County Central Judicial Processing Court.
