Free Rabies Vaccinations For Pets Coming To Westwood: What To Know

WESTWOOD, NJ — Pet parents can register now for Westwood's upcoming free rabies vaccination clinic, but signing up in advance is required, according to the Westwood Health Department.

The Westwood Board of Health and Northwest Bergen Regional Health Commission will hold the clinic Saturday, Oct. 31, at the Westwood Train Station on Broadway.

Cats will be vaccinated from noon to 12:30 p.m., followed by dogs from 12:30 to 2 p.m., according to the borough.

Dogs must be leashed, while carriers are required for cats. Retractable dog leashes are not permitted, and secure cat carriers are required. Pet parents must bring their pet’s tags, documentation showing proof of a previous rabies vaccination or both.

Pets with proof of a previous rabies vaccination will receive a three-year vaccine. Dogs and cats under 1 year old, or those without proof of a previous vaccination, will need to be vaccinated again in one year.

According to the Board of Health, there is no limit on how many residents can register, and residents from surrounding towns are permitted to participate. Pet parents who live outside Westwood must also pre-register for the clinic.

Pets should be at least four months old and accompanied by an adult, according to the registration form. A separate form is required for each pet.
