Hit and Run Driver May Have Stolen Car
Westwood police are on the lookout for the driver of a Nissan that crashed Wednesday morning

are investigating a hit and run crash where the driver, who could not be found, may have stolen the vehicle.
Police received a 911 call at 5:18 a.m. Wednesday about a hit and run crash on Third Avenue just north of Elm Street. A blue or black 2000 Nissan traveling northbound struck a parked vehicle on Third Avenue, pushing the parked vehicle, which was in a metered spot, 10 to 15 feet, according to Westwood Police Chief Frank Regino.
Regino said the operator of the Nissan fled on foot. When police conducted a computer check of the vehicle's license plates, Regino said police discovered the car belonged to an individual in Hasbrouck Heights.

In an attempt to locate the driver, Regino said police called the residence in Hasbrouck Heights. "Someone at the residence said they were contemplating reporting the vehicle stolen," Regino said.
Westwood officers contacted the Bergen County K-9 unit to help locate the driver, which was unsuccessful, according to Regino.

The Nissan was impounded and towed from the scene.
The investigation is ongoing.
