Major Kinderkamack Road Improvement Project Almost Complete

New traffic lights near 2 railroad crossings near the Emerson train station are now operational.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Two new traffic signals on nearby Kinderkamack Road near the Emerson train station are operational.

The signals are near the railroad crossings on Ackerman and Linwood avenues.

The $4.4 million-improvement project is nearly complete, Bergen County officials announced. It is designed to improve traffic flow through the Kinderkamack Road corridor of Emerson.

The work included installing three new traffic signals, upgrades to railroad crossings on the heavily-traveled roadway and improvements to Emerson Plaza's east and west sides and sewer drains, sidewalks and the street itself.

Of the $4.4 million, NJ Transit spent $920,000 on the railroad crossing improvements.

“Kinderkamack Road is the gateway to Pascack Valley and a critical component of Bergen County’s transportation infrastructure,” County Executive Jim Tedesco said in a statement. “Most importantly, the completion of this project means that traveling on Kinderkamack Road will be safer for thousands of motorists every day.”
