NJ Transit Bus Leaves Riders Out in The Cold

Once again the 165FP Ignores It's Riders

Another freezing cold morning at the bus stop at the corner of Mill St and 3rd Ave. Normally there's a 165FP bus that stops at 6:50. People are commuting to New York - time is of the essence. Why else get up so early. But the bus doesn't come. Nothing. It's quiet. The sun slowly rises but the cold still bites. Emails and tweets to New Jersey transit go unanswered. It's not until 7:20 that a bus finally arrives. Over half an hour late.

Mistakes happen, buses get delayed but this isn't the first time this has happened. Not by a long shot. In fact Westwood City Councilman Peter Grefrath has created an email chain to discuss this bus. It's often that this bus never shows up or shows up late. It has a different route from other 165 buses so some theorize the driver goes the wrong way and bypasses stops.

Various emails to NJ Transit go unanswered or are met with shrugs of indifference. Sometimes they even say the bus did arrive. Even though there is direct proof it did not. This seems like a small issue but small issues matter. These riders have jobs and responsibilities and we pay money both for tickets and to the government that fund NJ Transit. There needs to be some sort of oversight or at least better way to contact someone. We can't change a broken bus system unless we are given the tools. NJ Transit will never be perfect but it doesn't have to be this imperfect. A bus should at the very least follow the correct route.
