NJ Transit Strike Contingency Plan For Westwood

Route 17 station will offer park-and-ride bus service.

WESTWOOD, NJ - River Dell commuters should brace themselves for two-hour long commutes into New York City if New Jersey Transit rail workers strike Sunday.

More than 105,000 commuters could be displaced and countless motorists be affected should union workers and the organization fail to reach a new contract before 12:01 a.m. Sunday.

Park-and-ride bus service will operate on a first-come, first-served basis on weekdays from 6 to 10 a.m. and 4 to 8 p.m., from the Route 17 Rail Station in Ramsey and from MetLife Stadium, NJ Transit said.

NJ Transit will offer enhance peak service on the following bus routes on the Main/Bergen County lines: 145, 160L, 160T, 163P, 164SX, 190P/D, 190R, 190X, and 192X.

Buses from MetLife Stadium will go directly to the Port Authority. Those from the Route 17 station will go to the Lincoln Harbor Ferry in Weehawken. From there, commuters need to hop on a 15-minute long ferry ride to 39th Street and then either take a bus, shuttle, subway, or walk to midtown.

George Washington Bridge commuters could expect a nine-mile backup.

NJ Transit officials say in the event of a strike, highway backups of more than 20 miles heading into Manhattan are possible. More than 10,000 cars per hour will be on the roadways during peak travel times, officials said.
