A 24-year-old male from Haledon was arrested Monday after a motor vehicle stop that revealed drugs and paraphernalia.

A Westwood officer was assisting another officer during a motor vehicle stop on Lafayette Avenue when he saw a yellow jeep commit a motor vehicle violation. The officer left that stop and pulled over the jeep on Lafayette Avenue by McKinley Avenue.

When the officer approached the vehicle to ask the driver for his license, registration and insurance card, he detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage and the faint odor of burnt marijuana, according to police. There was a female passenger in the vehicle with the male driver.

According to police, the driver's eyes were bloodshot and watery and his hands were shaking. He was asked to step out of the vehicle to do field sobriety tests, which he performed successfully.

The officer, however, retrieved a blue glass pipe with marijuana residue inside, police said. The driver was placed under arrest and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, careless driving, violating a no turn on red and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle.
