STAC to Host A Presentation by NYPD Commissioner James P. O’Neill

(SPARKILL, NY – April 12, 2018)--St. Thomas Aquinas College’s Criminal Justice Advisory Board will host a presentation by New York City Police Commissioner James P. O’Neill on “Neighborhood Policing and its Impact on Counterterrorism: How the NYPD is Building Community Trust in the 21st Century” announces Professor Ira Promisel, instructor of criminal justice at the College. The event is scheduled for Thursday, April 19, 2018 in the College’s Lougheed Library. The Commissioner’s talk will begin at 6:00 p.m., followed by a Q&A session and networking reception with the College’s Criminal Justice Advisory Board. The event is free and open to the public.

James P. O’Neill was appointed the 43rd New York City police commissioner in September 2016. He developed the NYPD’s neighborhood-based policing model that is credited with producing greater police and community interaction and collaboration. Commissioner O'Neill will discuss the nexus of the antiterrorism efforts of the NYPD and an innovative, cutting edge approach to working with the community that the NYPD calls Neighborhood Policing. Neighborhood Policing is a comprehensive crime-fighting strategy built on improved communication and collaboration between local police officers and community residents. Neighborhood Policing greatly increases connectivity and engagement with the community without diminishing, and in fact, improving the NYPD's crime-fighting capabilities.
