Westwood Museum Open Saturday

The Westwood Heritage Society is exhibiting war memorabilia.

The Westwood Museum, which is located in the , will be open for residents and visitors from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 12.

During the open house, the Westwood Museum will again exhibit its special display honoring the military service of the Borough's residents. The "Military Memorabilia" will be exhibited in the Museum's three rolling display cases and also will include some free-standing items.

The display will feature the World War II memorabilia of Lt. Anton A. Heins, Jr. and Joseph P. Whalen and the World War I items of Arthur H. Floyd. Additional items that were recently acquired will also be included in the exhibit.

There will also be five ongoing exhibits in the Museum's wall-mounted display cases. These exhibits are:

  • "Changing Face of Broadway - Volz Businesses," a photographic exhibit highlighting the changes in the businesses of the Volz family, and the buildings on Broadway, from the late 1890s to the present;
  • "Westwood Veterans Council Supporting Westwood's Veterans, Past and Present," a photographic exhibit documenting this organization's activities within the borough and beyond;
  • "Westwood's Fallen Hero - Christopher R. Hrbek," a special photographic exhibit;
  • "Our Boys Come Marching Home - Westwood's World War I Veterans," a photographic exhibit documenting the return of Westwood's veterans from Europe after the end of World War I;
  • "Westwood Avenue - Westwood House to Haring Hardware," a historical photographic exhibit of the changes that have occurred on the first block of Westwood Avenue, eastward from the Westwood Train Station, in the 100+ years since the establishment of the Westwood House Hotel.


The Westwood Heritage Society maintains the Westwood Museum and urges people to drop in and view these exhibits and other artifacts from the borough's past.
