Westwood Woman Sexually Assaulted Woman Outside Her Apartment, Man Arrested: Prosecutor

A Ridgewood man was charged with sexually assaulting a woman outside her Westwood apartment Friday night, said Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli.

The Westwood Police Department received a 911 call from a woman who said she needed help in front of her apartment complex, Molinelli said.

The woman told a neighbor to call police while she was in front of the apartment building struggling with a man who fled the scene on a bicycle, authorities said.

The woman told police she was sexually assaulted by the man, Molinelli said.

Police found Jim Broadbent, 48, who was on a bicycle in the area, Molinelli said, and charged him with sexual assault and criminal sexual contact.

Bergen County Superior Court Judge Margaret M. Foti set Broadbent’s bail at $200,000 with no 10 percent option, no contact with the alleged victim, and the surrender of passport authorities said.

Broadbent was remanded to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of bail, Molinelli said.
