2 Girls, 11, Hit By a Car in Edison

The girls, from Edison and Metuchen, sustained multiple injuries, including broken bones and remain in the hospital.

Edison, NJ - Two 11-year-old girls were injured Thursday afternoon after they ran across New Dover Road and were struck by a westbound car, police said.

Witnesses told investigating Officer Salvatore Cipolla that the two girls – one from Edison, the other from Metuchen – darted across New Dover Road near Lawlor Court at 2:20 p.m. Thursday and into the path of an oncoming Audi driven by a 78-year-old Metuchen man.

The girls sustained multiple injuries, including broken bones, and were transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick for treatment, police said. The driver, who was uninjured, will not be charged in connection with the accident, police said.

A crossing guard was present at the nearby New Dover Road and Floyd Street crosswalk, but the girls crossed the busy street well before reaching that crosswalk, police said.
