CARTERET, NJ — On Friday, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ6) announced that he secured $6 million for the Carteret Ferry Terminal in the Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation and Housing and Urban Development spending bill for Fiscal Year 2023.

The House is expected to vote on the underlying legislation in the coming months.

This is part of Carteret's efforts to run a ferry from Central New Jersey to downtown Manhattan. NJ Transit bus routes will connect with the ferry, as will cars, and nearby pedestrian and bicycle paths.

Carteret announced in January it will buy one single 149-passenger ferry boat from NY Waterway, paying $2.25 million for the boat.

When completed, this will be a three-story ferry terminal with a waiting area, restrooms, food court/snack bar, operations center, meeting space and a public rooftop observation deck.

The proposed ferry terminal would be at the north end of Carteret Waterfront Park, at the Carteret boat marina. It's about 25 minutes by boat to reach Lower Manhattan.

“I’m proud that Carteret will continue to receive support for its ferry terminal project. Once completed, the ferry will allow New Jersey residents and tourists to easily travel between New Jersey and downtown Manhattan. This funding will deliver efficient and reliable transportation options to residents in Central New Jersey and will help reduce vehicle congestion,” Pallone said. “I look forward to seeing this project move through the legislative process.”
