A First Responder called Home!

According to the Star Ledger's Sunday July 20 Obituaries, Mr. John G. McHale passed peacefully on July 18, at The Pennsylvania Hospital.

Those wishing to pay their respects can visit the Bridgewater Funeral Home, 707 E. Main Street, Bridgewater, NJ, Monday, between the hours of 2 to 4 and 7to 9 P.M.

While John was born in the Bronx, he spent his early live in Avenel, NJ. Around age thirty or so, he moved to Bridgewater, NJ.  During his time in Avenel, he must have found a calling for volunteering, for he devoted much of his time and energies to the Avenel-Colonia First Aid Squad (ACFAS). John became President of the squad after the squad successfully re-opened its doors, after an eight month legal battle with Woodbridge Township officials. Thanks to John's efforts, and with the support of many in the township, the squad returned to serving and protecting the community in May 2011.

There are those that may not know that John McHale was blessed to be an organ (I believe heart and lung) recipient. Through that gift of life extension, John was able to give and care for so many others. It truly knew how precious life is and, as a leader of the first aid squad, worked hard to ensure others would have a chance to enjoy theirs.

We all know our police officers are referred to as our 'finest', firemen as our 'bravest' but what honorific do we use for our EMT?  I don't know if there is one.  But to me, they are our "Lifesavers"!

Condolence to the McHale family, and to all is friends and associates. We should thank God for the extra years of life he granted John. Bless you John for using those years so well! We take comfort in the knowledge that you are now watching over us from higher position.
