WOODBRIDGE, NJ — Demolition began last week at the former City hotel and Star hotel site on Rt. 1 in Woodbridge, according to media reports.
The Spot, a now-closed dive bar, also used to be located there.
All the buildings are being torn down to make way for a new Cambria Suites hotel that will be built there. The Cambria Suites will be a five-story, 104-room hotel, Patch previously reported. There are also plans to build a restaurant on the first floor.
This is the property at 939-943 Rt. 1 south.
The owner of that property is Jap Real Estate, LLC, represented by Piscataway-based lawyer Aravind Aithal. They were given a “payment in lieu of taxes” (PILOT) agreement from Woodbridge Township, TAP Into reported this week.
At last week's demolition, they reported Woodbridge Mayor John McCormac called the property "among our town’s last eyesores," and he said Woodbridge has been aggressively trying to "clean up such sites."
