WOODBRIDGE, NJ — Will Woodbridge Waterfront Park open this year?
Mayor John McCormac said two years ago it would open in 2025, but that did not happen. Now, he says the Township is hopeful it will open sometime in 2026.
What's the hold up?
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection still has to sign off on the environmental remediation that had to be done on the property, Twp. spokesman John Hagerty said this week.
The land used to be a polluted brownfield site.
Once Woodbridge Waterfront Park — it's also called Woodbridge Wetlands Park — opens, it will give Woodbridge Township its first public access to the Raritan River in more than 100 years. The park consists of 185 acres of mostly wetlands and marsh, but the town added walking trails, an elevated boardwalk and picnic areas. There is also a lot of wildlife in the marsh.

One part of the park will be Pine Barrens Pond, a previously polluted pond. Woodbridge Twp. would like to make that a stocked fishing pond.
