WOODBRIDGE, NJ — There was not a fire on the roof of the NJ Turnpike Authority building in Woodbridge, but smoke was seen on the building's rooftop, said a spokesman for the Turnpike Authority.
Maintenance was blowing out the boiler, which is something they do once a year, said NJ Turnpike Authority spokesman Thomas Feeney.
Drivers passing by saw smoke and called 911. Multiple Woodbridge fire agencies responded. The building was evacuated at around 2 p.m. Tuesday while firefighters investigated.
As of 3:30 p.m., employees have since been allowed back into the building.
This is the nine-story office building where the New Jersey Turnpike Authority headquarters is located.
The Turnpike Authority building is located right off Rts. 1/9 in Woodbridge, and is a well-known building that's highly visible in the area.
