Smoke, But No Fire Caused Evacuation Of Turnpike Authority Building In Woodbridge

Maintenance was blowing out the boiler, which produced smoke, and drivers passing by called 911.

WOODBRIDGE, NJ — There was not a fire on the roof of the NJ Turnpike Authority building in Woodbridge, but smoke was seen on the building's rooftop, said a spokesman for the Turnpike Authority.

Maintenance was blowing out the boiler, which is something they do once a year, said NJ Turnpike Authority spokesman Thomas Feeney.

Drivers passing by saw smoke and called 911. Multiple Woodbridge fire agencies responded. The building was evacuated at around 2 p.m. Tuesday while firefighters investigated.

As of 3:30 p.m., employees have since been allowed back into the building.

This is the nine-story office building where the New Jersey Turnpike Authority headquarters is located.

The Turnpike Authority building is located right off Rts. 1/9 in Woodbridge, and is a well-known building that's highly visible in the area.
