OCEANPORT, NJ — The Associated Press determined that Congressman Frank Pallone won re-election Tuesday in New Jersey's Sixth Congressional district.
Pallone is a Democrat, and he fended off a challenge from Republican Hillary Herzig. From the Associated Press, here are the unofficial vote counts:
Pallone: 107,732 votes, 69 percent of the vote
Herzig: 48,242 votes, 30 percent of the vote
71 percent of the votes were in when the AP called the race for Pallone.
Pallone has been in Congress for the past 38 years. Herzig, a married mother of three who lives with her husband and their kids in Oceanport, attempted to unseat the incumbent.
Herzig previously worked for the U.S. Army and U.S. Department of Homeland Security. On her campaign website, she lists protecting parental rights, lowering taxes and medical freedom as her top priorities. She's also against flock cameras.
Pallone is a frequent Trump critic; he voted twice to impeach Trump. On policy, he was one of the architects of the Green New Deal. He was a big supporter of wind farms off the Jersey Shore and he said on his website he backs government incentives for "clean, renewable energy such as solar and wind ... Pallone uses his position as ranking member of the Energy and Commerce Committee to advocate for these priorities."
Pallone represents New Jersey's Sixth Congressional District, which includes Woodbridge, Matawan, Aberdeen, the Bayshore section of Middletown, Long Branch and Asbury Park.
