Avenel's Golden Arches Gets a Makeover

The local McDonald's is undergoing a redesign to bring a more modern appeal to fast food.

They're not clowning around: McDonald's is getting a makeover.

Many of the classic Golden Arches McDonald's restaurants are getting a facelift, giving them a more upscale look rather than the loud red and yellow of Ronald McDonald fame.

The in Avenel is no exception. The restaurant has been undergoing a transformatio for several weeks. It's knocked out the popular drive-through (although the lobby area of the McD's is still open.)

Gone are the red roofs that were so much a signpost of the restaurant. The chain is installing wooden tables, a more neutral color palette, leatherette chairs reminiscent of a coffeehouse, and even flat screen TVs, according to a report in the LA Times.

Even the Golden Arches are being resdesigned into a more modern logo.

It's all part of a multi-year, $1 billion makeover to hit most of the chain's 14,000 stores, to make them feel 'more like home' - or more like Starbucks, the report said.

The Avenel McDonald's has been worked on for at least a month, with at least several more weeks of work to go.
