Body Of Man Found In Woodbridge Garage Fire On New Year's Day

A fire broke out in the garage of a home in the Fords section on New Year's Day, and the body of an adult man was found inside, said police.

WOODBRIDGE, NJ — A fire broke out in the garage area of a private home in the Fords section on New Year's Day, and the body of an adult man was found inside the garage, said Woodbridge police.

The fire was reported in a garage on the 100 block of Poplar Street in the Fords section at 5:40 p.m. Wednesday, in the area of Dunbar Avenue.

The fire was extinguished by the all-volunteer Fords Fire Department, and the body of the deceased man was located in the garage area after the flames were put out, said police.

As of late Thursday afternoon, the man has still not been positively identified, according to the county prosecutor. His exact cause of death remains undetermined pending an autopsy by the Middlesex County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

The garage was extensively damaged in the fire.
