A 5-year-old New Jersey boy has been killed after chasing a ball under a UPS truck, police said Friday.

A 5-year-old New Jersey boy has been killed after chasing a ball under a UPS truck, police said Friday.

The boy was playing in front of an apartment complex when his ball rolled under a parked UPS truck around 6:30 p.m. Thursday, police said.

After delivering a package to the Cheryl Drive residence in Woodbridge, the 38-year-old driver returned to the UPS truck and started driving, running over the child, police said.

Capt. Roy Hoppock of the Woodbridge Police Department said the driver is "very upset about what happened."

"It's one of the bigger tragedies we've had to deal with," he said.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation is ongoing, police said. No arrests have been made, and the boy's and driver's names haven't been released.
