An 11-year-old Carteret boy is now an orphan after his father, mother and six-year-old sister were killed in a car accident last Thursday.

CARTERET, NJ — An 11-year-old Carteret boy, Yash Singh, is now an orphan after his father, mother and six-year-old sister were killed in a car accident last Thursday in Virginia. But more than $120,000 has now been raised for him by friends and family; the donations will be put into an account he can draw from when he turns 18.
Patch previously reported on the devastating crash: At 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15 , Gurmeet Singh, 44, of Carteret, was driving his family in a minivan along Rt. 340 north in Page County, Virginia.
The driver of an oncoming car, a 2008 Ford F-250 pick-up truck traveling south on the highway, suddenly lost control, crossed the center line and collided head-on with the Singh family's Dodge Grand Caravan, said Virginia State Police.

"Gurmeet Singh was a man of few words but many smiles," wrote loved ones on a GoFundMe page set up to help the young boy. "He and his family met with a tragic auto accident in Virginia on August 15 ... While nobody can ever fulfill the void in Yash's life, as friends and family, the least we can do is to come together and contribute our share for the medical expenses of Yash, funeral expenses of the family, and more importantly, contribute towards the future of Yash."
In less than 36 hours, more than $110,000 has been raised for the boy. The organizers said the money will be put into a fund that Yash can take installments from once he turns 18.

Gurmeet Singh came to the U.S. from New Delhi when he was an adult and the family lived in Carteret for the past ten years, where both children attended Carteret public schools, reported NJ.com.
The Singh family regularly attended Gurdwara Dashmesh Darbar, a Sikh temple in the Port Reading section of Woodbridge. The temple held a memorial service Sunday, Aug. 18 for the family, according to Facebook posts from friends and congregants.
Singh worked for as a wholesaler for Milton Distributors and the mother was a stay-at-home mom.
All the Singhs had been wearing seat belts. But Singh, his wife, Jasleen Kaur, 38, and their six-year-old girl, died at the scene.
The only survivor in minivan was Yash. The boy was rushed by helicopter to UVA Medical Center, where he remains with serious injuries, including a pelvic fracture. But he is expected to survive.
The driver of the Ford, Douglas W. Sours, 65, of Shenandoah, Va., was hospitalized with minor injuries. Sours was wearing a seat belt, police said. It remains unknown what caused him to lose control of his pick-up truck that day. Charges are pending, said Virginia State Police.
